Vintage games that really really need to be made for Android

The brilliant Spy vs Spy was released on Android recently and it got me thinking about all the other games that need to be revived for mobiles. We have the perfect tool for revisiting a golden era for gaming in all our hands (not that tool, the one with the screen) and it's a travesty that we're not using it to share what are astounding works of art.  We do all accept now that creating computer games is a form of art right?  Perhaps that's another blog...

Lemmings

This barely needs an explanation. How it hasn't happened yet is frankly a mystery as it's perfect for mobile gaming.  Just let me play a few levels on the train to work, that's all I ask.  Remember, if it wasn't for Lemmings you wouldn't have Grand Theft Auto.

All Nintendo Games Ever

Surely Nintendo see that with mobile they have the perfect platform to revive their fortunes while still giving them the opportunity to create new console hardware.  I would gladly pay for premium, ad-free classic Nintendo licences on Android and I'm sure there are millions of others who would to.  Duck Hunt on your phone? Fuck yes. Mario 1, 2 and 3? Shut up and take my money!  Ocarina of Time?! Just fucking do it already!

If anyone at Nintendo is reading this, do it. And while you're at it, make Nintendo phone covers, soundpacks, screensavers, themes, make everything because you can lead on mobile gaming like no other company and take us out of this In-app purchase hell of awfulness that we seem to have fallen into. Give us real games from Nintendo and mobile gaming will soar.

I'll leave you with this, imagine playing the original SNES Mario Kart on your way to work. *sigh*

Sensible World of Soccer

It's a hit on Xbox Live and would suit the limited control capabilities of a touchscreen device perfectly.  And it's the greatest football game ever made.

Cannon Fodder

Sensible Software's other classic series and one that again would suit the limited controls of phones brilliantly.  It also had a fantastic theme song. Just someone make the damn thing!

Populous 1 & 2

The proto-God sim that featured real Gods.  Could be brilliant on a phone.

The Monkey Island games

I know you can get them with Scumm VM but wouldn't it be great to just click on them in the app store and crack on?  This goes for all the classic point n click adventures.  I can get Simon the Sorcerer, why not Monkey Island?

1 and 2 are on iPhone, why not Android? It makes me sad. :(

Knights of the Old Republic

Because it would be awesome to play this again and it's another one that's out on iphone/ipad but no android.

Sid Meiers Pirates

Oh look, this one is on iOS as well. 'Sake, maybe I should just get a bloomin iphone. :(

What games do you want to see?  Someone suggested issuing emulators but it's nice to have games with controls properly mapped.
